Haviv Rettig Gur has covered Israel’s politics and foreign policy since 2005. Formerly a correspondent for the Jerusalem Post, he has reported from over 20 countries. Haviv Gur can be heard on Don Senor’s Call Me Back and Times of Israel podcasts, in interviews with The Free Press’ Bari Weiss, UC Berkley School of Law’s Prof. Kenneth Bamberger, and on MSNBC .

He will be in conversation with the Jewish Community Relations Coalition of New Mexico’s Co-chair Alonet Zarum Zandan. In this talk, Haviv Gur will provide a current update on the war in the Middle East and perspective on the challenges and pitfalls of achieving peace and security.

His remarks will be preceded by the screening of philanthropist and author Sheryl Sandberg’s documentary Screams before Silence. which features never-before-heard eyewitness accounts from released hostages, survivors, and first responders from the October 7 tragedy.

MEET OUR SPEAKERS

Haviv Rettig Gur is The Times of Israel’s senior analyst. Before joining The Times of Israel, he was a reporter for the Jerusalem Post. Haviv has reported from over 20 countries and served as director of communications for the Jewish Agency for Israel, Israel’s largest NGO. He lectures on Israeli politics, the US-Israel relationship, the peace process, modern Jewish history and identity, and Israel-diaspora relations. Haviv lives in the Jerusalem area with his wife and four children.

Alonet (Lonnie) Zarum Zandan is a dedicated and active member of the Jewish global community. Raised in London in a modern orthodox Jewish home, her upbringing was deeply rooted in community and religious values, influenced by her British-born mother and her father, a Yemeni immigrant to Israel. Today, Alonet serves as the founder and co-chair of the Jewish Community Relations Council of New Mexico, an organization representing 25 Jewish groups across the state. Her tireless dedication and leadership are a testament to her commitment to fostering community relations and supporting Jewish life in New Mexico.
